One Mom’s Battle Partners with Author Vanessa Reiser to Expose Family Court Crisis During Rhode Island Awareness Run

May 22, 2025 – Providence, Rhode Island – One Mom’s Battle (OMB), a national advocacy platform committed to family court reform, is proud to announce its partnership with author and licensed clinical social worker, Vanessa Reiser in her upcoming awareness run across Rhode Island on May 30, 2025. Reiser will run 30 miles in a wedding dress to raise awareness about narcissistic abuse—and this year, for the first time, she is drawing a direct and urgent connection to the family court crisis.

The partnership between OMB and Reiser marks a powerful alliance between two survivor-led platforms committed to breaking the silence around psychological abuse and exposing the systems that enable it.

“Narcissistic abuse thrives in silence, and nowhere is that silence more deadly than in our family court system,” said Tina Swithin, founder of One Mom’s Battle. “Vanessa has built an incredible platform to shine a light on this insidious form of domestic violence. By joining forces, we are calling national attention to what survivors know all too well: leaving an abuser does not end the abuse—it often escalates it, with the courtroom as its new battlefield.”

Reiser’s choice to end her run at the J. Joseph Garrahy Judicial Complex in Providence is no coincidence. It reflects the growing recognition that family courts are failing to protect victims and their children. Protective parents across the country are being silenced, disbelieved, and forced to share custody with their abusers—often under the influence of a billion-dollar industry of court-appointed professionals who profit from prolonged litigation and trauma.

Swithin continued, “The courtroom should be a place of protection, not betrayal. Yet too many judges ignore evidence of abuse, allow personal bias to drive decisions, and fight against even the most basic education on trauma and coercive control. We are proud to stand beside Vanessa as she uses her platform and her voice to demand accountability and systemic change.”

Funds raised during the run will support Tell A Therapist, Reiser’s nonprofit connecting survivors to clinicians trained in narcissistic abuse, and will amplify the ongoing advocacy work of One Mom’s Battle. Together, these efforts aim to create a more informed, trauma-aware, and accountable family court system that prioritizes child safety over abuser access.
